2nd International Conference on Mobile Internet Architecture Evolution of Post-LTE
(MIRACLE 2011)
Host: China Mobile Research Institute & China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT
Time: Nov.10, 2011~ Nov.11, 2011
Location: Hilton Double Tree Hotel, Beijing China
Mobile Internet era has come. The number of global mobile internet users hits a billion in 2011, and it is expected the number of mobile users will exceed that of the desktop internet users in three years. Together with the progressing of mobile communication, various kinds of operators including 3GPP, 3GPP2 and WiMax have decided to evolve their network to the LTE arena. The huge number of mobile Internet users and blooming kinds of applications has brought the mobile network operators with challenges from various aspects. The traditional walled garden telecommunication system can hardly survive the hit from intensive signaling and small data applications which give great impact on mobile radio access network and core network. Some Internet application has to be revised in order to run normally in today’s mobile network without causing the radio network congestion.
What’s the next generation mobile internet architecture, and what will be the enabling technologies there? To answer these questions, worldwide researchers could work together. In the U.S., the NSF has initiated the GENI and FIA programs to support researches for the next generation Internet and architectures; WiMax has been regarded as the major mobile access technology. In EU, the 7-th Framework Programme (FP7) has initiated the 4WARD which is doing virtual network research and Trilogy research program which develop new solutions for the control architecture of the Internet and remove the known and emerging technical deficiencies. In ASIA, Asia Future Internet Forum (AsiaFI) was founded to coordinate research and development on Future Internet. China also setup the China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) program to support researches and innovation solutions. China Mobile who has more than 500 million mobile subscriber, has initiated the Wireless IP/Internet Service Environment (WiiSE) program to study the key enabling technologies for the next generation mobile internet and it’s architecture.
Given the above background and on-going activities worldwide, China Mobile initiates this 1st MIRACLE conference in November 2011 at Beijing, right ahead of the IETF-82 in Taibei. While Mobile Internet is on its way to proliferate, the world needs a time to sit down and reflect on its evolution and architecture design. Whether and how Mobile Internet will be different from the current Internet architecture, and what are the major demands for its architecture evolution, and what will be the enabling frameworks and technologies for its evolution are all the key questions that challenge us and motivate us to initiate this meeting. In this meeting, we will have the opportunity to discuss the requirements on Mobile Internet architecture, the start-of-the-art technologies and future development and trend of these frameworks and technologies.
